1. Partisans' Judgments of SCOTUS Sharply Diverge
|
|
|
|
Partisan Gap:
Opinions of the U.S. Supreme Court show significant partisan variation —
66% of Republicans approve of the job the court is doing, compared with
44% of independents and 15% of Democrats. The 51-percentage-point
approval gap between Republicans and Democrats is approaching the
record-high 61-point gap measured immediately after the Dobbs decision in 2022.
U.S. Data:
Democrats' near record-low approval, combined with independents' subpar
44%, brings today's 43% overall rating of the court close to the
previous record low of 40%.

2. Seven in 10 Maintain Negative Economic Outlook |
|
|
|
U.S. Economic Outlook:
Seven in 10 Americans in July believed the economy is "getting worse,"
extending the run of negative economic sentiment seen since May 2021.
Trend Analysis:
After more than a decade of relatively low economic pessimism, from
2010 through 2019, anxiety about the economy spiked in March 2020 at the
start of the pandemic. It fell in early 2021 as the economy recovered
but surged again later that year with the onset of high inflation. While
down from the recent peak of 85% in June 2022, the 70% of Americans who
currently believe the economy is getting worse remains among the
highest rates in Gallup's trend since 1992.

3. Women's Gymnastics, Olympics' Golden Child |

|
|
Olympic Sport Preferences:
Women's gymnastics was the most anticipated 2024 Summer Olympics sport
in the U.S., with 68% of American adults naming it as one of their top
three favorite events to watch.
Gender Patterns:
Women tend to favor watching Olympic events that feature athletes of
their own gender. For men, the same is true, with the exception of
gymnastics: 49% of men rank women's gymnastics among their top three
events, compared with 20% for men's gymnastics.

4. The Employee Exit Journey |

|
Employee Retention:
When workers who have left their jobs are asked what could have
prevented them from leaving, they most often cite enhanced compensation
or benefits, followed by more positive interactions with their manager.
Turnover Trends:
Self-reported employee turnover risk is at its highest since 2015, with
half of U.S. employees (51%) open to leaving their organization.

5. LGBTQ+ Adults: Treatment Is Better |

|
|
Acceptance and Treatment:
Seventy percent of LGBTQ+ adults, matching the rate among U.S. adults
overall, feel that society's treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals has
improved over the past decade. Younger LGBTQ+ adults (those under 50)
are a bit more likely than those aged 50 and older to perceive
improvement.
Reports of Harassment:
Reflecting on their own experiences, about one in four LGBTQ+ adults in
the U.S. say they have received poor treatment or harassment
“frequently” (5%) or “occasionally” (19%) in the past year. This
includes more than a third of gay or lesbian Americans (36%) and 20% of
bisexual adults.
